What you will actually be doing.
The unknown is the scariest part. Here is a typical day in residential treatment. Every program is a little different.
- 7:00Wake up, medication, breakfast
- 8:30Morning check-in or meditation
- 9:00Group therapy
- 10:30Skills group: cravings, emotions, relationships
- 12:00Lunch
- 1:00Individual therapy or psychiatry visit
- 2:30Education or a specialty group
- 4:00Exercise, yoga, time outside
- 5:30Dinner
- 7:00Meeting, speaker or family call
- 9:00Wind down
- 10:30Lights out
The first 72 hours
You will be tired, raw and probably wondering what you have done. That is normal. Intake, a medical exam, a lot of questions, and a lot of sleep.
What to pack
- A week of comfortable clothes
- Your insurance card and ID
- A list of your medications and doses
- Phone numbers written on paper
- A book or journal
What to ask about before you go
- Phone and visitor rules
- Whether you can smoke or vape
- Whether you can keep working remotely
