Our story
Cope or Die was built by someone who has been on both sides.
TJ Mastrelli got sober. Then he went to work in the industry that is supposed to help people do the same. What he saw is why this exists.
Draft Wording on this page is a first draft for TJ to correct and approve.
The name
Cope or Die is not a threat. It is the plain truth of addiction and untreated mental illness: you find a way to cope with life as it is, or it takes you. Everything on this site is a way to cope.
What he saw
People making the bravest decision of their lives, and being treated as a billing opportunity. Families told “insurance covers it,” then mailed a bill for thirty, forty, sixty thousand dollars. Call centers posing as the facility you searched for. Programs that shamed people off the medication keeping them alive.
And next to all of that, counselors, nurses and techs doing honest work every day inside a system that makes honesty harder than it should be.
What he is building
One place that tells the truth. What the substance does. What the diagnosis means. What treatment is, what it costs, and how to tell a good program from a bad one. With real people to walk through it with you.
Do it the right way, or do not do it.
Where this is going
The long-term goal is a treatment center that runs by The Standard from day one: the price in writing before admission, medication offered and never shamed, more than one path, and a plan for the day you leave.
What we believe
Real people. Real resources. Real change.
