Questions to ask
Ten questions. Read them out loud.
A good program answers all ten without flinching. Write the answers down, with the name of the person who gave them.
- Are you in-network with my exact plan? Can I have that in writing?
- What will I owe, in dollars, for the full stay you are recommending?
- What happens to my bill if insurance stops approving days?
- What state license do you hold, and are you accredited?
- Who is on the medical staff, and are they on site overnight?
- Do you treat mental health and substance use together?
- Do you offer medication-assisted treatment?
- Is 12-step the only approach here, or are there others?
- What is the plan for the day I leave?
- Is anyone being paid for referring me here?
